Snapchat is fast becoming a very popular medium for brands to communicate with their audience in a fast and exciting way! For those of you that don’t know what Snap Chat is a mobile app that allows its user to send videos or photos, once the pic is opened it automatically deletes itself after a few seconds and you can’t see it again. Snapchat has predominantly female users, about 70%, and is most popular among 18-29 year olds. What all this means is that if your target market is young adult females (or mostly females) then you really should get busy on this platform! Snapchat makes mobile marketing easy for brands to reach their audience in a new and different way (other than a mass SMS or MMS which people don’t really respond to anymore) Think about it, you always have your phone on you, 24/7, everywhere you go. Marketers can now access their audience using mobile marketing which allows them to interact with their audience anytime and anywhere in a relevant manner about who the brand is, what they do, how and why they do it!
A brand can use Snapchat to show sneak previews of new products (which could even be built up till a product launch). What better way to get your audience excited about a new product or product design than with a little teaser pic that disappears after a few seconds- leaving them wanting more and creating interest. Taco Bell did a spin on this by reintroducing their “Beefy Crunch Burrito” to their Snapchat fans.
But that’s not all, Snapchat can be used for Coupons just like 16 Handles (a frozen yogurt chain) did! Customers were asked send a snap of themselves eating a 16 Handles frozen yogurt to the company’s Snapchat account and they were then rewarded with a ‘snap’ of a discount coupon for their next purchase. This also encourages customers to return and spend more money. 16 Handles got to engage with their audience and create a platform to have a conversation with them as well as getting a list of users they could send future promotional material too!
Another great way to use Snapchat for your brand is by giving users behind the scenes sneak previews of ads or events that the brand is doing. You can also inform customers of any sales or events, keeping your customers in the know about what your brand is getting up too so that they can get involved.
All of this makes users feel like insiders to the brand and allows them to feel that they are special and important to the brand – which of course they are. Snapchat allows a brand to build a relationship with customers and have a conversation with them, connecting on a personal level, treat a customer like an important friend and not just another number. This is a great way to create true customer loyalty for your brand.
